Remaking the Kitchen ~ Spice Jars and Rack

Hello, I hope you've been having a great week, the weekend is upon us and I don't know about you but here looks like we will be getting some nice weather. We will be enjoying our last weekend with Ryan, my son, who will soon be back on a plane to return across the big wide ocean. I will miss him so but it has been good to spend some time with him! I am almost done with the vest I am making him so maybe I can get him to pose in it before he goes!

So I am still busy working away on my organization in the kitchen. Last time I showed you some great labels that I had found for the pantry jars and their complimentary spice labels. Well I filled the spice label all in and printed them and then realized that they weren't going to work exactly as I wanted them to so I had to design some for myself. I actually made up two different kinds of labels. This job has grown much bigger than I originally anticipated. It is involving even more jars, but that's for later. Right now I want to talk about the spice jars.

So I made up these sweet little chalkboard labels for my spice jars. And by the way, for all of you out there that are searching for the perfect chalkboard background you really don't need one. I used  chalkboard background for these larger labels in this photo but the smaller ones I just used a very dark gray and they look almost exactly alike.

I guess if you want the scratches and all like you see in some labels then go with a background but I was happy how these turned out. I enjoyed doing this. I haven't designed anything for quite awhile so it was quite fun. I plan on making more things like this in the future.

These went together pretty easy. I had this huge pile of jars because over here you can still buy yogurt in glass jars and they even come with a great little plastic pop off lid so I put the labels on, added a couple of washi tapes around the edge of the lids and then, remember those labels that I said wouldn't work...well they fit perfect on top of the lids! I love how they turned out, what do you think?

If you would like to see what kind of kitchen I am working with check out this post My Kitchen Woes

And also my first post  Improving Storage in my kitchen

Have a great weekend! Diane

I just want to mention and give a shout out at  Rose @ Fine Craft Guild  and thank her for featuring this post. She mentions the possibility of downloading these labels and I do not have them available yet, though I plan on it. I still have to figure out how to make pdfs editable before I do because I think it is very important to be able to write what you need on the labels. So please keep a close eye out or just subscribe up there on the right and I will be adding them to my blog soon!

    1. Why thank you Jody, I do love how they look now, and finally I can fit a teaspoon in the jar instead of trying to pour it out and dumping it everywhere!

  4. I love the way your spice rack looks, and I also love the beadboard in the background! You are so organized! We have a pull down spice rack/shelf in one of our cabinets, but that only fits the small spices (in their bottles from the store). Then we have all the HUGE spice containers we get at places like Costco where everything comes in large quantities. I don't know if I'll ever get them all together in one place! Your labels are darling, I'm obsessed with chalkboards! I'm a new email subscriber!
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you Kathleen! I am really just a big mess trying to BE organized, if you read my earlier post about my kitchen woes you would understand why I am having to go to such great lengths to try and make this kitchen work. It has been a big struggle even living in this house the last year with that kitchen such a mess and the work on the living room going on. It's finally calming down and I can try and make this a home now :D

  5. It looks so lovely, too bad I'm too lazy to transfer the spices from their store containers to something like that.
